This website is dedicated to teaching the basics of the seafaring technologies, techniques, and hardships of the Renaissance era (mainly during the 1600s). I am no expert on this subject, but my sources are available for you to use for any research if you so desire.
On this website, you can explore the anatomy of a ship of the era, and why these ships were better than their predecessors. You will also find a brief description of scurvy and its effects on European exploration. To help put you in the shoes of a ships captain during this era, a game has been provided. The game simulates much of the same decision making a real ship captain would face. There is another short summary of depth sounding under "more...". Also under this tab you will find an explanation of why sailing during this era was so important, and my bibliography. Enjoy.
